Education outreach continues

Southland’s stories are continuing to inspire tamariki throughout the region.

Te Unua Museum of Southland’s education outreach programme has continued, with senior educator Suzanne Spencer recently visiting both St John’s Girls School and Ōtātara School pupils.

The junior syndicate at St John’s got up close and personal with some of the creepy crawlies from the education handling collection at Te Unua, while the visit to Ōtātara School focused on mahika kai and kaitiakitaka – broadening the students’ prior learning at school.

St John's Girls School teacher Anya Raines said the programme was interesting and engaging for pupils, and the session was a "great ignitor" to fuel their learning.

"The girls raved about it, they loved being able to see all of the insects," she said.

"Suzanne was really well-prepared, and the slideshow she shared has left us with so much information to fuel further inquiry. I'd love to have her back for future learning."
