Support Te Unua

Together, we are bringing Invercargill and Southland’s new museum to life

Our aspiration for Te Unua Museum of Southland is to create one of the most significant regional museums in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Unua Museum of Southland will simultaneously draw visitors to our special corner of the world, reflect the stories of the people who call our place home – the stories of the past, the stories of today, and the stories of tomorrow.
We are full of gratitude for those who have supported our vision, and deepened the connection between Te Unua Museum of Southland and our community.

Our funding partners

Te Unua Museum of Southland and Invercargill City Council extends a heartfelt thanks to community funders, Community Trust South and ILT, who have made an enormous contribution to our project. Our aspiration to create a world-class museum here in Southland would simply not be possible without your generosity.

Collaboration with our community

We are deeply grateful to Waihōpai Rūnaka, on behalf on Kai Tahu Kā Rūnaka ki Murihiku (which includes Awarua, Waihōpai, Ōraka-Aparima, and Hokonui Rūnaka for their generosity in sharing the pūrakau of our takiwa. This mahi is critical to developing and guiding the experience of our museum. We look forward to sharing the pūrakau of Murihiku with both our community and manuhiri.
